Subject: NSTX CSU Project Meeting Notes from 3/10/10
Notes from 3/10 Meeting:

Titus (see VGs)
The torsional moment for design of the lid/flex/Diaphragm bolting and the TF steps or keys is 0.3MN-m  for the lower lid and 0.25 MN-m for the upper flex. This is the torque being transmitted from the centerstack TF to the outer rim of the umbrella structure.

Provided analysis on PF4,5 Stress with 12 Support Points and Thermal Loads.  The conductor loads appear to be modest.  Mangra noted that the model doesn't yet reflect the planned compliance in the radial direction which should improve the stresses further.  Action: Mangra to provide compliance layer spec information for analysis.

Chrzanowski (see VGs)
Presented the plans for R&D.  The major elements include fatigue strength test on the flex joint material, formability and stiffness tests and cyclic testing.  Friction stir welding and taplock pullout testing is also planned.

The mockup of a two coil inner to OTF flex connection is in the shop for fabrication.  The mockup will demonstrate access to bolt up the inner TF to flex strap.

For the FDR additional testing on the Flex strap assembly is planned as well as testing of the assembly tools for the flex joint connection.

Mangra (see VGs)
Presented his understanding of the requirements for the umbrella lids and pedestal and solicited comments.

Outstanding Action Items (last update 3/10/2010)

Action: Structural design criteria has a table with likelihood of failures that is in the NSTX (orig.) GRD.  Structural design criteria needs work to be released such as references
STATUS: Draft out for comment and review

Action: The idea of a Design Load Requirements (Criteria) Document is a good one. Action: Mark Smith to pull this together for the Structures– Need this BEFORE the PDR

Action:  We have a set of Calculations signed off, but not all were checked for the CDR.  These calcs need to be updated and checked (by PDR?). ACTION: Titus

Action: Neumeyer to comment on VDE plasma disruption used to analyze the stresses in the PP brackets and fasteners.  Is it a realistic scenario disruption?  STATUS: 3/10-There may be some wiggle room since the scenarios performed included some PS limits.  There is also an error in the model that needs to be addressed.  The highest stresses are located in poloidal jumpers that were never used in NSTX and there are actually gussets installed between the VV wall and the PP brackets which are not reflected in the model.  SRI will update the model and run it without the jumper and gusseted bracket.
