Subject: NSTX CSU Project Meeting and Minutes from 1/13/10
Notes from 1/13 Meeting:
Neumeyer
The parametric study of the OH Coil has resulted in an improved design.  The coil is now a 24kA coil which can operate at 6kV vs the earlier design which was operating at 8kV.  The cooling time has been reduced from 20 minutes to 17 minutes at the same pressure drop as the current design as a result of a slight increase in cooling passage size.   Once the stress analysis is confirmed the design point data will be updated with the new information. See VGs
Mangra
Danny reviewed a potential modification to the outer TF leg supports that would support the outer TF legs without using the existing outer leg clevis connection which may be insufficient without significant modification.  The outer leg support would get its out of plane support from a connection to the PF 4 coil support on the vessel which is mounted to a larger plate.  Also shown was the initial thinking on the umbrella structure foot reinforcement. See VGs

Titus
Analysis was also performed on the resistive redistribution of Halo Currents in the Centerstack Inconel casing.  Analysis indicates a lateral force back to the outer VV of approximately 57 kips.  Analysis will continue by expanding the plasma disruption simulations with poloidal current as well as Toroidal plasma currents.

Woolley
Presented a concept for the use of the existing FISO fiber optic displacement transducers to measure actual displacements of the VV during disruptions. See VGs.

Brooks
Found and presented data from ORNL that indicates a temperature of 2000C may be used for tile thermal limit if we are willing to accept some modest ablation. See VGs

Han
Produced analysis of the outer TF leg clevis connections and provided the results to the design group for incorporation into the outer leg support design.  See VGs.

Outstanding Action Items (last update 1/6/2010)
Action: Ali to rerun OH Coil thermal with throttled flows to see if stresses can be reduced.
Status(1/6/2010): Expect to have results by next meeting.

Action: Dudek to meet with Mangra and Titus to work out need dates and priority list of items.
STATUS (1/6/2010): Titus presented progress on this work at 1/6 meeting.  Work continues.

Action: Dudek to obtain decision from Project management on whether to pursue 40kA OH Coil design option.
STATUS Closed 1/6/2010: Decision is to pursue the 32kA design that CN has identified above.  Water system upgrade as estimated will be maintained in the design, and PS will remain at 24kA design level.

Action: Structural design criteria has a table with likelihood of failures that is in the NSTX (orig.) GRD.  Structural design criteria needs work to be released such as references Action: Titus to have it updated for approval and release

Action:  Inner PF Coils: CN needs to check if max volts / turn doesn't generate too much voltage on coils.  If 2 kv or more may need addressing.
