Some
dates to remember:
• CD-2 Lehman Cost and
Schedule Review August 10-11
• CD-2 September
Update
on Umbrella Lid (Smith) (See VGs)
Mark
presented the latest refinement of the upper and lower umbrella lids. Some
discussion on how to connect the lid to the umbrella cylinder. Need to
ensure that the connection can move freely even under torsional load. May
need to resort to a linear bearing (off the shelf?)
Update
on Flex Joint [Willard ]
Vendor
produced a test sample using a soldered connection. The samples Tom passed
around looked good. Samples were soldered and then subjected to a bend
test in a vise. No separation of the laminations was evident. Next
step is to solder an assembly being prepared in the Tech Shop and subject it to
cyclic loading tests.
Update
on MPTS VV Interface [Willard (see VGs) ]
Tom
reviewed the latest analysis on the VV under vacuum and magnetic loads results
for deflections and stress were presented. Results compared nicely with
Sri's earlier results. Next would be disruption analysis. Tom would
like to use Maxwell to assemble an axisymetric model. Titus has a concern
that the resulting model would not be practical because of the size
required.
After
a long discussion the following plan of action was agreed to:
1.
Mark Smith offered to estimate how long the model would run using information
from some of the models he has run in the past.
2.
If the result appears tractable Tom would proceed with building the model
3.
The model Tom builds will be built such that Ron Hatcher can use it with Opera
for future work on the VV analysis.
OH
Coil Belleville Washer spring design (Zolfigari) (See VG)
Ali
presented the parameters being used to design the OH Coil preload belleville
stack. The highest normal operation force is 10K lbs. but the design
could easily be upgraded to 20k lbs to give some margin, so that will be the
plan going forward.
The
max power supply limits are 400k lbs, so there will need to be DCPS algorithms
to protect the OH coil in that situation.
