Subject: NBI Upgrade Weekly Status 11/6/09
Al,

NBI Upgrade:  The NSTXU CDR was deemed successful pending resolution of chits. No design changes were required. A project meeting was held this week to assess chits, risk resolution, and CD1 preparations. A CDR report with appropriate text to describe the design is being prepared. Per the CDR recommendations, each WAF is receiving scrutiny for consistency and completeness. Preparation of the CD1 review NBI Overview presentation has begun.

NBI Decon:  Decon continues on Lid, Magnet, Shield, 90 inch flange, and smaller pieces. Steady progress and reduction of contamination has been noted. Use of occasional deionized water rinses has improved results. More items have been surveyed out below 100kdpm and have been moved out of the high contamination area. The breathable air and disposable hood system has arrived and training for several members of the Decon team has been completed. Use of the hoods has begun for decon on the Lid because of the need to access its interior. HP and ERWM support continues at full throttle and is keeping the Decon effort fully supported. A B-25 shipping container has been filled with radioactive waste materials and moved out of the Test Cell for processing and shipment.

Regards,

Tim
