Subject: NBI Upgrade Weekly Status 11/25/09
Al,

NBI Upgrade:  A mockup prototype of the Bay J and K section of the vessel and the Bay J-K cap has been procured and received. This prototype allows evaluation of installation methods and access for the vacuum vessel modification. Support has been rendered for E-Mag and vacuum vessel mechanical loads due to the addition of the second beamline and the change in the vessel due to the cap. On the armor, NB armor thermal calculations have been refined to evaluate performance of CFC tiles in the central regions where beam overlap could be expected. In addressing CDR chits, progress has been made in defining scope and costs for a pyrometer as backup protection for those tiles.

NBI Decon:  Low level decon continued on shielding and parts in the low contamination areas. A second breathable air hood system has been ordered to support multiple crews on high contamination work like the Lid and the box. On the cryo panels, all of the interior chevrons facing inward have received a first pass of hands on decon with very good results. Health Physics is focussing on processing the high volume of surveys and results data generated from the extensive amount of decon work that has been accomplished recently.

Regards,

Tim
