Subject: NBI Upgrade Weekly Status 5/7/10
Al,

NBI Upgrade: The Bay J-K cap Mockup display was used for the Open House including a large scale picture of the interior of the vessel behind it to add realism. A Preliminary layout and design for the RWM coil around Bays J & K has been largely completed. Inside the duct, shielding is being designed and added to the CAD model. This shielding will be similar to the existing BL bellows shield concept. Vendor discussions for the bellows and gate valve continues. Modeling and analysis on the armor for disruptive load cases continues. Evaluation of carbon tile vendor specifications and performance continues. Work also started on a preliminary model for the bake out expansion of the armor backing plates. On the TVPS, effort is underway to identify specific off the shelf components which are commercially available for isolation valves, turbomolecular pump bellows, and electrical breaks.

NBI Decon:  A Decon hiatus was scheduled this week due to coverage issues so other work to move items and to clean up was performed. Area maintenance was also performed. A meeting was held with HP supervision to evaluate consolidation of the entry area and changeout area at the desk in the Test Cell. Accommodations will be made for entry, maintenance, and detailed surveys for this area.

Regards,

Tim
