Subject: NBI Upgrade Weekly Status 6/26/09
Al,

NBI Management: The NBI BL2 Upgrade Peer Review took place successfully this week. The presenters showed concepts, layouts, design details, and general arrangement requirements. Five chits were generated and have been reviewed and accepted.

NBI Decon:  Characterization of the decon effort indicates solid progress on ameliorating tritium contamination of the calorimeter. Additional decon cycles were performed this week with good results.

NBI Relocation: A rack up of crane hook, wall, beamline, and beamline lid heights has been developed confirming that the BL and lid can go over the NSTX shield wall with good clearance. Lift fixtures will be designed to accommodate the necessary lifts.

NBI Power and Control:  In addition to the Peer Review presentation, focus continues on HVE placement and NTC impacts. Because the controls scheme will be modeled after the existing system, the controls design could be presented in more detail than typical of a CDR. This additional detail improves the accuracy of the cost estimating process which has already begun.

NBI Duct, VV Port, and Armor:  The beam duct, port extension, vacuum vessel cap, and NBI armor were presented and accepted at the Peer Review.

NBI BL Services: Based on the well developed conceptual design, the BL services now appear to be straightforward. Focus will resume on cost estimation.

NTC Equipment Relocations:  Equipment removals and re-installations were presented and detailed to the port and rack level at the peer review. Discussions will continue with Diagnostics to incorporate physics priorities.

Regards,

Tim
