Subject:                          NBI Upgrade Weekly Status 1/28/11

Mike,

NBI Upgrade:   NSTX outage scope increases and snow days continue to blue shift the NBI upgrade effort but with no impact on overall schedule this month. Nevertheless, efforts will have to ramp up in February (as planned) to support the scheduled NBI Peer Review and then the FDR. Plasma cutting tests for the upgrade have led to the use of the plasma cutter on the vacuum vessel this outage for the tFIDA diagnostic installation. In turn, the tFIDA effort will be used to provide data for the installation procedure for the prototype tests and the eventual actual upgrade VV modification at Bay K for BL2 and Bay L for MPTS. This documentation should be available for the upcoming NBI Peer Review.

NBI Refurbishment:  Steady progress has been made on drawings for the ion dump so a meeting will be scheduled with the shops next week to discuss fabrication details.

Regards,

Tim
