Subject: NBI Upgrade Weekly Status 1/22/10
Al,

NBI Upgrade:  Design work continues on duct flanges, cryogenics, and platforms. Analysis continues on various thermal scenarios for the armor tiles. Management activities this week included an NBIU job status meeting on all jobs and the monthly IPT meeting. As a result of the status meeting several NBIU in house peer reviews will be scheduled for late February to target some specific issues that will then feed the WAF revision process in April and the PDR in June.

NBI Decon:  The large capacity sprayer needed for the box decon has arrived and is being fitted out for use. Box decon is schedule to start next week.  Initial surveys of the box indicate contamination levels ranging from 2 to 25 million dpm/100 cm2 depending on line of sight to the torus opening. A standup meeting with NBI, ERWM, and HP ironed out some details regarding removal of water from the box to drums which will greatly simplify the handling of contaminated water effluent. Decon continued on the lid, magnet, and 90 inch flange. Some OMA box disassembly has begun to remove shields and allow greater access. All indications are that levels continue to decline. Planning for decon and partial disassembly of the ion dump has started. A full survey of the ion dump was performed to benchmark this unit.

Regards,

Tim
