Subject: NBI Upgrade Weekly Status 2/19/10
Al,

NBI Upgrade:  An NBIU Peer Review has been scheduled for early March to review progress on design and analysis. Preparations for the Peer Review are underway. Plans have been developed to test various cutting techniques on stainless plates to simulate the vacuum vessel modification. Armor analysis continues in several areas: the thermal analysis is being benchmarked to operational data and the loads associated with disruption forces has been modeled and estimated. Additional diagnostics details are being considered to add to duct and armor.

NBI Decon:  Decon on lid and box continued this week. Two drums of contaminated water effluent were solidified for disposal. Drum contents have been surveyed for tritium inventory. Low level shield decon also continued as manpower permitted. Plans for decon on the ion dump progressed and include some disassembly to reach areas more conveniently.

Regards,

Tim
