Subject: NBI Upgrade Weekly Status 12/18/09
Al,

NBI Upgrade:  The NBI Upgrade Team participated in the Office of Science Lehman Review held this week to support the effort to receive CD-1 approval from DOE. The very thorough review, report, and recommendations, and the NBI subcommittee questions and sidebar discussions proved very helpful in clarifying and addressing issues and priorities as well as determining appropriate emphasis for the technical cost, and schedule parameters for the project. The NBIU CDR design was found acceptable and the concomitant cost and schedule were considered appropriate for this stage of the project.

NBI Decon:  Decon continued on the lid using the sprayers with DI water. This technique is proving to be effective in reaching panel area behind the chevrons. Adapter tips are being developed to direct spray through the chevrons and hit the internal Helium panels also. This technique is also being considered for washing down the ion dump prior to dismantling it. Preparations continue on decon plans for the box internal surfaces. Several tours of the Test Cell decon area were conducted as part of the Lehman review allowing interested parties to see the disassembled beamline and decon work in progress.

Regards,

Tim
