Subject: NBI Upgrade Weekly Status 4/23/10
Al,

NBI Upgrade: Primary focus this week has been directed toward preparing WAF revisions for the upcoming WAF review next week. A cost center accounting change has been introduced and is being incorporated as a result of CD-1 approval. On the NBI duct, vendor questions and responses regarding the request for budgetary quotes for the rectangular and large circular bellows have been fielded over the past month. Indications are that costs are in line with our original estimates. Additional responses are anticipated prior to the PDR. Structural analysis including eddy currents and disruptive load cases has been completed on the NBI Armor. This information is vital and valuable for the NBI Armor PDR. Discussions about Power and Controls indicate that design material, block diagrams, and preliminary drawings are well along for inclusion in PDR presentations. Posted RWP area in the NTC for BL reassembly has been discussed as part of the WAF review process and information is being incorporated in the BL Relocation WAF.

NBI Decon:  Decon continued on the ion dump and the interior of the beam box this week. Area maintenance was also performed. A successful Decon Peer Review was held this week to discuss status and plans. Other than some finishing touches to specific areas where additional decon appears warranted,  it was generally accepted that the Decon effort can draw to a close and BL refurbishment can begin as soon as permissible. The Peer Review also concluded that at present levels the impact on NSTXU operations in the future will be minimal.

Regards,

Tim
