Completed PF 2& 3 support calculation. PF 2 3 Support Welds vs AWS Code Welding (Titus) (see VGs) PF 2&3 support welds are 1/8" fillets. Titus' interpretation of the AWS code is that a larger weld is required to meet the code. Denault & Titus are of the opinion that the AWS code accepts an engineered solution, but disagree about how it should be validated. Action: Denault to prepare a sketch of test samples using 1/8" stitch fillets for Titus to approve for cyclic testing in the MTL. Update on material testing (Kozub) (see VGs) Tests have been conducted on the belleville washers for the OH coil support. Tests confirmed the analysis results generated by Rogoff. Also conducted pull tests on the threaded inserts to be used in the TF Bundle stub extensions. The tests demonstrated the studs would rupture before the threaded inserts showed any sign of distress. The wire EDM version of the TF flex joint arrived on Tuesday. The flex connector is of high quality and has better tolerances than the soldered version. The two connectors will be cycle tested to validate the design calculations. Thermal Modeling of the OH Coil (Ali) (see VGs) The OH coil thermal analysis indicates the tension stresses on the bottom inner conductors are marginal but the shear stresses appear to be low. The analysis may not take advantage of the cooling circuit being "two-in-hand" and needs to be studied further. PF1a Coil modeling (Myatt) (see VGs) Len reviewed the progress on the inner PF coils and centerstack assembly. Viewgraphs will be posted by B.
