Passiv Plate Disruption Loads (Zhai/Titus) (see vgs) Yuhu presented the latest checking analysis of the passive plate disruption analysis. A discrepancy was discovered between the initial and check calculation in conductivity used for the passive plates. The axisymetric initial calculation used a measured composite conductivity which included the brackets and VV wall. This lower conductivity did not generate the skin effect seen in the more detailed 3D analysis which included separate conductivities for the copper plates and Stainless Steel support brackets. The initial analysis without the skin effects allowed the radial field to drive through the plates and create eddy currents which resulted in high loads and stresses. With the skin effects the checking analysis did not allow the radial fields to drive through and resulted in much lower loads. One final analysis is being performed to measure the sensitivity of this effect and closeout the calculation. http://nstx-upgrade.pppl.gov/Project_Meetings/CenterStackUpgrade/index_Meetings.htm
