The latest round of analysis indicates that the local reinforcements can be made to work if some reinforcement at the clevis is permitted. This would be the best value path forward. A meeting was held earlier on Wednesday to review the need to use CFC tiles for first plasma. The CFC tiles tend to trap Lithium compounds in the composite matrix and would likely contaminate the plasma. Decision was made by M. Williams to go with a high quality graphite instead but maintain the heat load capacity of the remaining hardware to allow an upgrade in the future to another tile material, possibly Moly. Analysis team still needs to provide guidance to operations on what the graphite tiles could tolerate in the way of heat flux. Update on NSTX CSU Analysis (Titus) (Attached) The Calculation log has been updated with some dates from Pete for the coil support structures to be done in mid January. Mark Smith indicated the dates should work for his schedule. Still need inputs from the remaining design engineers for dates. ACTION: Cog engineers (Tresemer, Chrzanowski, Priniski, Labik, Hatcher, Ellis) to provide the dates for completion. Orlando to followup with engineers before next meeting. Outer TF and Umbrella structure design (Smith) (see VG for details) Mark provided an update for the design of the outer leg supports and umbrella. Reinforcement in the arches of the umbrella reduces loads to acceptable levels in almost all areas. The areas that are high look to be manageable. The arch reinforcement is shadowing the dome vertical ports and will be optimized further to provide more clearance if possible. Umbrella Analysis Update (Zhang) (see VG for details) Han provided an update and clarification of the work done previously on the umbrella arches and cylinder. With the flanged and rib reinforcement the stresses were 28 ksi, without ribs 44 ksi. Viewgraphs will be posted by B. Simmons at: http://nstx-upgrade.pppl.gov/Project_Meetings/CenterStackUpgrade/index_Meetings.htm
