Subject:                          NBI Upgrade Weekly Status 4/22/11

Al,

NBI Upgrade:  A NBI technical Peer Review was held this week to assess progress toward the FDR in June. This review covered work since the PDR last June. COGs reported that design work and drawings are done or near done. Analysis on the armor confirms survival for operational scenarios for stresses and temperatures. Some additional design details will be included for hot spots. Some additional work continues based on global model analysis for reinforcing the vacuum vessel. The VV modification prototype setup and testing has started. This work is on track for completion prior to the FDR.

NBI Refurbishment:  Setup and core drilling of the old full energy ion dump continued in situ this week. These samples will be tested for residual tritium. Additional machining on the full energy ion dump continued in the shop.

Regards,

Tim
